Would you consider discrimination and equality concerns for people with dementia a societal problem?

Answer:

Yes.

Explanation:

ANY disability, regardless if it's physical or mental, will have people trying to take advantage of them. Dementia causes very poor memory, meaning that people can easily blame them for something they didn't say or do because dementia makes them forget.

I can confirm this as a 19 year old with arthritis. People WILL take advantage of disabilities if you're not careful.

Viewing dementia as a disability in terms of

the social/rights-based model and the way

in which people living with dementia are

responded to has a range of implications. There are several implications for dementia

policy and practice/services. In the social

model, people with dementia are centre

stage, with their voices elevated, and are

recognised as equal citizens with rights.

They are the agents of change and their

agency is valued and recognised.
