The president suggested to Secretary of the Treasury Morgenthau that artists be hired to decorate government structures. Programs put artists to work across the country decorating municipal and federal buildings and providing art classes. Post offices in Berkeley, California; Decatur, Illinois; Abbeville , Louisiana; and Flandreau, South Dakota, all were painted with vibrant colorful art works. Sculptures were even put atop Boulder Dam.
