Herbivorous insects tend to be highly specialized in their use of host plants. Populations of gall wasp B. treatae inhabit two s

ister species of live oak, Quercus virginiana and Q. geminata, which geographically overlap in the southeastern United States. The habitat of each oak differs slightly, with Q. virginiana occurring in sites that are more moist, more nutrient rich, and have higher pH. Q. virginiana has larger, tougher leaves and earlier flowering times.
How can conditions in the live oak habitats lead to speciation in gall wasps?

Answer:

There would be natural variation in a population of gall wasps. This would mean that some members would be at an advantage in the first kind of live oak while others in the population would have traits that provide them an advantage in the other kind of live oak. Over time, the gall wasps would become even more specialized to living in the specific live oaks. This habitat isolation would build a reproductive barrier that would allow the two gall wasp populations to become more genetically different over time. At some point, the populations will become different enough that they can no longer interbreed. At this point, they would be considered different species.

lara [203]

The evidence from "The World on Turtle's Back" that best supports the conclusion that the left-handed twin has evil qualities is: He delights in the sounds of warfare and suffering.

Anyone who has evil qualities delights in negativities. So, if the left-handed twin in the story has evil qualities, that means that he must be happy when warfare and suffering exist.

So, option D shows that the left-handed twin has evil qualities.

Explanation:

The tense that we have to use to fill the blanks is past perfect simple. We use this tense when we want to talk about an action that took place before another event in the past. Usually, the other situation is in the past simple.

The structure of the past perfect is: the subject (he, she, it, we, you, they, you, I) followed by the auxiliary had and the verb in the past participle.

For example, in the sentence, John knew the town because he had visited it in the past. Knew, is the past simple of know while had visited, is the part of the sentence that is in past perfect simple, and we can see that is referring to an event in the past (knew the city) because of the action that he made previously to that (had visited it in the past).
