ATP plays an important role in the transport of macromolecules into and out of the cell. ATP molecules store smaller quantities of energy, but can release energy very quickly.

Organisms get their energy from chemical bonds. Photoautotrophs also use photons of light from the sun as an energy source. Heterotrophs then eat the photoautotrophs and each other to get their energy
