Chef Pontiac led the Pontiac Rebellion of 1763 against the British. He commanded a loose group of over a dozen Indian tribes. It happened shortly after the end of the French and Indian War , which concluded with the signing of the Treaty of Paris of February 10, 1763. Indians from the Ohio Country, Illinois Country and the Great Lakes regions were afraid of the consequences of the loss of their French allies and the influx of colonists from east of the Appalachian Mountains wanting to settle in their lands.
