eight ears of corn and a cantaloupe cost $2.37. six ears of corn and 3 cantaloupes cost $3.51. what does a cantaloupe cost?
abruzzese [7]
In the given question, there are two vital information's give. Firstly 8 ears of corn and 1 cantaloupe cost $2.37. On the other hand 6 ears of corn and 3 cantaloupes cost $3.51.
Let us assume the cost of 1 corn = X
Let us assume the cost of 1 cantaloupe = Y
Then
8X + Y = 2.37
Y = 2.37 - 8X
And
6X + 3Y = 3.51
Now we replace the value of Y we found from the first equation
Then
6X + 3(2.37 - 8X) = 3.51
6X - 24X + 7.11 = 3.51
-18X = 3.51 - 7.11
-18X = -3.6
X = 3.6/18
   = 0.20
So $0.20 is the value of 1 corn. Then the value of a cantaloupe
Y = 2.37 - 8X
   = 2.37 - (8 * 0.20)
   = 2.37 - 1.6
   = 0.77
So cost of a cantaloupe is $0.77

1. A recipe calls for 1 1/2 cups of flour, 3/4 cup of white sugar, and 1/3 cup of brown sugar. The recipe makes 6 servings.
Nastasia [14]
1 1/2 divided by 6 is 1/4, so 1/4 of a cup of flour for each serving.

12 is the common denominator between 3/4 and 1/3,so 9/12 and 4/12,add them and you get 13/12,take 12 away from the top number and you get 1 1/12, so           1 1/12 is answer for 2

remember,1 serving is 1/4 of a cu of flour, and 9 is only 3 more than 6,so you just add in 3/4 to the flour, and that yould make it 2 1/4 cups of flour.

i hope this helps

Juan had $24400 and chose to split the money into two different mutual funds. During the first year, Fund A earned 4% interest a
Sidana [21]

Answer: Juan invested $14,900  in Fund A and $9,500 in Fund B.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x= Amount invested in Fund A .

Since , total amount invested = $24400

Then,  Amount invested in Fund B = 24400-x

Fund A earned 4% interest and Fund B earned 6% interest.

Interest earned by Fund A= 4% of x = 0.04 x

Interest earned by Fund B= 6% of x = 0.06 ( 24400-x)

= 0.06(24400)-0.06x

= 1464-0.06x

Total interest = 0.04x+1464-0.06x= 1464-0.02x

If he received a total of $1166 in interest, then

1464-0.02x =1166\\\\\Rightarrow\ 0.02x=1464-1166\\\\\Rightarrow\ 0.02x=298\\\\\Rightarrow\ x=\dfrac{298}{0.02}=14900

So, Amount invested in Fund A = $14900

Amount invested in Fund B = $( 24400-14900  ) = $9500

Hence, Juan invested $14,900  in Fund A and $9,500 in Fund B.
