the quotient of two numbers is 21, their difference is 60 what are the two numbers. and can you explain how you get the answer?
MArishka [77]

The quotient is the result when you divide two numbers,

i.e. When 6÷3=2 , in this case 2 is the quotient.

The difference is when one number is subtracted from another,

i.e. When 6-1=5 , in this case 5 is the difference.

 So let's call the two numbers you want to find 'x' and 'y'

 So,

 \frac{x}{y} = 21      and          x - y = 60

 Now we can rearrange these equations to find the values of x and y.

x - y = 60

x = 60 + y

\frac{x}{y} = 21

\frac{60 + y}{y} = 21

60 + y = 21y

20y = 60

--- y = 3

--- x = 63
