Answer:
x1=-1, x2=4/5

Step by step explanation:
5x^2 - 4 + x = 0
Use the commutative property to reorder the terms:
5x^2+x-4=0
Write x as a difference:
5x^2+5x-4x-4=0
Factor out 5x from the expression:
5xx(x-1)-4x - 4=0
Factor out -4 from the expression:
5xx(x+1) - 4 (x-1)=0
Factor out x+1 from the expression:
(x-1) x (5x-4) =0
When the product of factors equal 0 at least one factor is 0
X + 1 = 0
5x - 4 = 0
Solve the equation:
The equation has two solutions
X1=-1, x2 = 4/5

(Multiying by a unit fraction. Find the product mentally. (5.6) × 1/8=
Ipatiy [6.2K]

Step-by-step explanation:

(5.6) × 1/8

(5.6)  \cdot   \frac{1}{8}

Here the unit fraction is 1/8

multiply 5.6 times 1

so its 5.6. then divide the decimal by 8

we know that 8 times 7 is 56

so 56 divide by 8 is 7

we have decimal point 1 number to the left

so we move decimal point 2 place left

Hence 5.6 divide by 8 is 0.7

(5.6)  \cdot   \frac{1}{8}=0.7

Answer: 0.7

There are white, blue, and red boats in a marina. Three-fourths of the boats in the marina are white, 4/7 of the remaining boats
insens350 [35]

Answer:

There are 84 total boats.

Step-by-step explanation:

In order to find this, we first need to find the fraction which are red. We can do this by multiplying the whole by how many are not white.

1 * 1/4 = 1/4

Now we take that amount and multiply it by the amount that are not blue of the remaining.

1/4 * 3/7 = 3/28

Now that we have this, and we know this is 9 boats, we can divide 9 by this fraction and it will give us the total number of boats.

9 ÷ 3/28 = 84

I need help on B and C. Not sure how I can solve those. Can someone please help me out here? Thank you for your help!
Valentin [98]

Nice job with part A on getting those correct answers.

====================================================

Part B

  • mu = mean = 43
  • sigma = standard deviation = 3

Let's calculate the z score for the raw score x = 37

z = (x - mu)/sigma

z = (37 - 43)/3

z = -6/3

z = -2

A negative z score tells us we're below the mean. Specifically, we are exactly 2 standard deviations under the mean.

If you repeat those steps for x = 46 (not changing mu or sigma), then you should get z = 1. So we're now 1 standard deviation above the mean.

Ultimately, we want to know the area under the standard normal curve (aka z curve) from z = -2 to z = 1.

Refer to the chart below which is a breakdown of the Empirical Rule. The pink areas are within 1 standard deviation of the mean. We have two regions taking up roughly 34% of the full area under the curve, so they combine to 34+34 = 68%

Then we add on another 13.5% which is the blue area on the left (between z = -2 and z = -1)

So 13.5+68 = 81.5% of the area under the curve is between z = -2 and z = 1.

<h3>Answer: 81.5</h3>

Note: the percent sign is already taken care of for us, so there's no need to type it in. But the answer above of course means 81.5% and that answer is approximate.

====================================================

Part C

Let's find the z score for x = 34. The values of mu and sigma are the same as before.

z = (x - mu)/sigma

z = (34-43)/3

z = -9/3

z = -3

So computing P(X > 34) is the same as P(Z > -3)

Notice how adding up all of the values in the chart mentioned gets us:

2.35+13.5+34+34+13.5+2.35 = 99.7

which means 99.7% of the distribution is within 3 standard deviations of the mean. The remaining 100% - 99.7% = 0.3% is the combined area of both tails. So each tail is (0.3%)/2 = 0.15%

In short, 0.15% of the area under the curve is to the left of z = -3

Therefore, 100% - 0.15% = 99.85% of the widgets are going to have z values larger than -3, which in turn means they have values larger than 34.

<h3>Answer: 99.85</h3>

Again you don't have to worry about the percent sign. Like before, the answer is approximate.

I need help before time run out
valentina_108 [34]
The answer is D. You are just adding 8 to the number of hours you work because you earn 8 dollars an hour, or you can just multiply the number of hours by the wage you get paid and you would get the your gross pay. It would also be in quadrant 1 because all the numbers are positive and quadrant 1 is all positive numbers not like the other quadrants where there is either all negative numbers or some positive numbers and some negative numbers. But to make things shorter the answer is D.
