Mc Clellan and Lee battled to a standstill along Antietam Creek near Sharpsburg, because Lee retreated back to Virginia and McClellan ignored Lincoln which  made him  convinced that McClellan could never defeat Lee, Lincoln notified  the general  which  got  him removed.
