This is because the opposite sides (which is 4x and 2x) of a triangle add up to the exterior angle (<y).

We have to find X.

As you know:

3x + 4x + 2x = 180

because the angles of a triangle add up to 180.

When we add them:

9x = 180

x =  \frac{180}{9}

The 9 is multiplying with the X. We want X only and not 9 with it. So, when we take 9 to the other side, it becomes divide. As a result, the answer to x is:-

x = 20

Substitute value of x into 4x and 2x to find the exterior angle:-

4x:

4(20) = 80

2x:

2(20) = 40

When we add them we get the answer for angle Y:-

80 + 40 = 120

Therefore, we can conclude that:

Well! See ,If the endpoints are (x1,y1) & (x2,y2) then mid-point is given by (x1+x2)/2,

(y1+y2)/2

Here in this question endpoints given for the line segment are (-4,2) , (2,4) so we have to find mid-point for x and y co-ordinates by applying above rule.

So, the mid-point we get is (-4+2)/2 , (2+4)/2.

i.e. (-1,3) which lies in 2nd Co-ordinate!
