The major asked me to have a drink with him and two other officers. We drank rum and it was very friendly. Outside it was gettin

g dark. I asked what time the attack was to be and they said as soon as it was dark. I went back to the drivers. They were sitting in the dugout talking and when I came in they stopped. I gave them each a package of cigarettes, Macedonias, loosely packed cigarettes that spilled tobacco and needed to have the ends twisted before you smoked them. Manera lit his lighter and passed it around. The lighter was shaped like a Fiat radiator. I told them what I had heard.
What does the excerpt reveal about the narrator?
He prefers the company of the officers to that of the drivers.
He only spends time with the officers so he can get cigarettes for the drivers.
He looks down on everyone involved in the war, both officers and enlisted men.
He interacts easily with both his superiors and the drivers.

Answer:

D

Explanation:

From this excerpt I would pick the last one. It seems he gets along with everyone well. The officers ask him to drink with them and they give him information which he thinks should be given to the drivers. He has cigarettes to pass around and give everyone

It might be C, but I very much doubt it. Not from the passage given.

No for B. He spends time with the officers because they asked him to.

It is not A. He seems to fit in with everyone.

It sounds like Fredrick Douglass was pointing out that slave masters didn't want their slaves to have knowledge such as reading and writing, let alone knowing their own ages and such.

Most slave masters wanted this so that they could feel superior over blacks, and they didn't want the slaves to be equal with them.

Information provided in dictionaries includes pronunciation, part of speech, and the level of usage of a word.
Dominik [7]
Answer : A. True

A dictionary is a type of a general information source that contains a compilation of alphabetically arranged words, their pronunciation, the part of speech the certain words belong and the usage of such words. The dictionary is part of the tertiary type of information sources because it no longer comes first hand from the original source and had already undergone several reviews and revisions before releasing the final dictionary for publication and circulation in the market.

nikitadnepr [17]

The narrative technique that bears the most tension in the readings of "The Pit and the Pendulum" by Edgar Allen Poe (1843) and "After Twenty Years" by O. Henry (1906) is the setting.

  • The setting as a narrative technique describes the time and place that an event takes place in a story.

  • The setting of Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" was in a cell with burning walls, symbolizing death.  On the other hand, the setting of O. Henry's "After Twenty Years" was at a New York street, where Bob and Jimmy had originally agreed to meet again after twenty years.

  • The same narrative technique of setting was the most effective in both stories.

Thus, Poe's "The Pit and the Pendulum" concentrated on scenes where the unreliable narrator was tried and sentenced to death, just as O. Henry's "After Twenty Years" dwelt on the scene where Bob was cut by the long hand of justice for a crime through his long-time friend, Jimmy.
