There's not much you can or should do here other than to "solve for d."

Subtract 22 from both sides.  Then 22 - 22 - 28d = -12 - 22 = -34

Then -28d = -34, and d = -28 / (-34) = + 14/17 (answer)

22+(3^2-4^2)  inside the parentheses are exponents, so they are calculated first.
