Answer: C. The United States was loaning money to Germany to pay back Britain and France from World War I.

Explanation:

After the end of World War I, the Germans were told to pay a lot of reparations to the allied nations in Europe. Their economy suffered as a result until the United States stepped in and began loaning them money which enabled them to pay off Britain and France.

Britain and France then used pay of this money to pay back the United States for loans they took during WW1.

When the Great Depression happened and the U.S. could no longer send money to Germany, Germany could not keep up payments and the British and the French could not do so either and so the depression spread across the continent.
