Answer: Though the animation is not provided, proofreading in DNA replication is done by the 3'->5' exonuclease activity of DNA polymerase.

Explanation: Proofreading is a process by which the 3'->5' exonuclease activity of DNA polymerase double-checks each nucleotide after it is added and removes the mismatched nucleotide.

When a wrong nucleotide is added during replication, translocation of the DNA polymerase to the position where the next nucleotide is to be added is inhibited until the 3'->5' exonuclease activity of DNA polymerase double-checks and removes the incorrectly paired nucleotide so that the polymerase can begin replication again.

The diagrams are showing a cell undergoing a mitotic division at different points of Anaphase.use the ABC labels on the drawings
katrin [286]

The rigth answer is C (B ==> A ==> C)

The 3 images represent the key stages of mitosis.

Image B represents the beginning of the anaphase, where the chromosomes are aligned in the equatorial plate.

The image A represents the anaphase where the chromosomes are separated on both sides of the cell.

The image C represents the telophase or one can observe in the middle the formation of the division furrow to allow the cell to cut itself in two.

ProblemAssume that long fingers are inherited as a recessive trait with 80% penetrance. Two people heterozygous for long fingers
Natalka [10]

Answer:

The probability that their first child will have long fingers is 20%

Explanation:

Available data:

  • long fingers are inherited with 80% penetrance
  • L represents the dominant allele for short fingers
  • l represents the recessive allele for long fingers

Cross) Two people heterozygous for long fingers mate

                            Ll x Ll

Gametes) 1/2 L 1/2l 1/2L 1/2l

Punnet Square)

                               L l

                     L LL Ll

                       l Ll ll

F1) 25% or 1/4 LL

     50% or 1/2 Ll

     25% or 1/4 ll

Long fingers are inherited with 80% penetrance, which means that 80% is the proportion of the population that expresses the phenotype long fingers. Hence, the probability that the first child in this cross will have long fingers is:

100% ------- 80%

25% -------- X = 20%
