First of all, I would approach the child and tell him/her not to believe what the adult just said. I will tell him/her that jumping rope is for kids like him/her and it's perfectly normal. Then, I would tell the adult respectfully that he/she shouldn't label things based on gender.

These cities such as Venice and Genoa were mostly built along or near waterways and as such, saw goods come into their ports and then people from all over Europe would come to these ports to trade thereby increasing their influence and size.
