In WW1 the Triple alliance preceding the war was between Germany, Austria-Hungary and Italy but because Italy didn't join on the Germans side and eventually joined the Allies at the promise of disputed territory between Italy and Austria, which they never gained.The Germans seeked allies and gained the Ottoman empire which had recently been through wars with Italy, the Balkans and it self at the hands of the young Turks who eventually gained power.
