Answer:

The author Lukens says people often find it difficult to view things clearly in our life as one finds himself always in the midway. But when a reader reads a story or work of literature, he learns to sort out the important details by removing the non-essential elements. Similarly, he can employ this clarification technique in real life too in order to separate all the experiences that are irrelevant or unimportant and focus on what is relevant. Thus, the learning of this detachment technique by going through a work of literature would assist the reader to find essentials and focus on the significant events of his life by removing everything that's unessential.
