1788 - Georgia ratifies the Constitution and joins the United States as the 4th state.

1829 - Gold is found in northern Georgia and the Georgia Gold Rush begins.

1838 - The Cherokee Indians in northern Georgia are forced to march to Oklahoma in what would be called the "Trail of Tears."

1861 - Georgia secedes from the Union joining the Confederate States of America.

1864 - Sherman's "March to the Sea" from Atlanta to Savannah occurs.

1870 - Georgia is restored to the Union.

-First Seminole war begins as Georgia backwoodsmen attack Indians just north of the Florida border. 1817

-Second Seminole War begins. Osceola thrusts his knife through the 1832 treaty. Osceola is arrested but escapes. 1835

-Seminoles massacre Major Francis L. Dade and his 103 man command. 1836
