Answer:

171.5Watts

Explanation:

Given parameters:

Mass  = 5kg

Distance  = 28m

Time  = 8s

Unknown:

Power = ?

Solution:

Power is the rate at which work is done;

       Power  = \frac{work done }{time taken}

Work done  = force x distance = mg x d =

  m is the mass

   g is the acceleration due to gravity

   d is the distance

  Work done  = 5 x 9.8 x 28 = 1372J

     Power = \frac{1372}{8}   = 171.5Watts

A 450.0 N, uniform, 1.50 m bar is suspended horizontally by two vertical cables at each end. Cable A can support a maximum tensi
bogdanovich [222]

Answer:

1) W_{object} = 400 N

2) x = 0.28 m from cable A.

Explanation:

1 ) Let's use the first Newton to find the , because bar is in equilibrium.

\sum F_{Tot} = 0

In this case we just have y-direction forces.

\sum F_{Tot} = T_{A}+T_{B}-W_{bar}-W_{object} = 0

Now, let's solve the equation for W(object).

W_{object} = T_{A}+T_{B}-W_{bar} = 550 +300 - 450 = 400 N

2 ) To find the position of the heaviest weight we need to use the torque definition.

\sum \tau = 0

The total torque is evaluated in the axes of the object.

Let's put the heaviest weight in a x distance from the cable A. We will call this point P for instance.

First let's find the positions from each force to the P point.

L = 1.50 m  ; total length of the bar.

D_{AP} = x  ; distance between Tension A and P point.

D_{BP} = L-x ; distance between Tension B and P point.

D_{W_{bar}P} = \frac{L}{2}-x ; distance between weight of the bar (middle of the bar) and P point.

Now, let's find the total torque in P point, assuming counterclockwise rotation as positive.

\sum \tau = T_{B}(L-x)-T_{A}(x)-W_{bar}(\frac{L}{2}-x) = 0

Finally we just need to solve it for x.

x = \frac{T_{B}L-W_{bar}(L/2)}{T_{B}+W_{bar}+T_{A}}

x = 0.28 m

So the distance is x = 0.28 m from cable A.

Hope it helps!

Have a nice day! :)

An aircraft flying at a steady velocity of 70 m/s eastwards at a height of 800 m drops a package of supplies.
iren2701 [21]

The motion of the package can be described as the motion of a projectile,

given that it has an horizontal velocity and it is acted on by gravity.

  • a) \vec{v} = 70·i
  • b) The package will reach ground in approximately <u>12.77 seconds</u>.
  • c) The speed of the package as it lands is approximately <u>145.51 m/s</u>.
  • d) The path of the package based on a stationary frame of reference is <u>parabolic</u>
  • e) The path of the package as seen from the plane is <u>directly vertical</u> downwards

Reasons:

Velocity of the aircraft = 70 m/s

Direction of flight of the aircraft = Eastward

Height from which the aircraft drops the package, h = 800 m

a) The initial velocity of the package, \vec{v} = 70·i

b) The time it will take the package to reach the ground, <em>t</em>, is given by the formula;

\displaystyle h = \mathbf{\frac{1}{2} \cdot g \cdot t^2}

Where;

g = The acceleration due to gravity ≈ 9.81 m/s²

Therefore;

\displaystyle t = \mathbf{\sqrt{ \frac{2 \cdot h}{g} }}

Which gives;

\displaystyle t = \sqrt{ \frac{2 \times 800}{9.81} } \approx \mathbf{12.77}

The time it will take the package to reach the ground, t ≈ <u>12.77 seconds</u>

c) The vertical velocity just before the package reaches the ground, v_y, is given as follows;

v_y^2 = 2·g·h

Therefore;

v_y = √(2·g·h)

Which gives;

v_y = √(2 × 9.81 × 800) ≈ 125.28

v_y ≈ 125.28 m/s

Which gives; \vec{v} = 70·i - 125.28·j

Therefore, |v| = √(70² + (-125.28)²) ≈ 143.51

The speed of the package as it lands, |v| ≈ <u>143.51 m/s</u>

d) The motion of the package that includes both horizontal and vertical motion is a projectile motion.

Therefore;

The path of the package is the path of a projectile, which is a <u>parabolic shape</u>.

e) As seen by someone on the aeroplane, the horizontal velocity will be

zero, therefore, the package will appear as accelerating <u>directly vertical</u>

downwards.

If an object is accelerating to the right , then net force on the object must be directed towards the right ! True Or False ?
vichka [17]
Not so fast.

I think you're using 'accelerating' to mean 'speeding up', but you really need
to be more careful with it. "Acceleration" means ANY change in speed OR
direction.

If an object's speed to the left is decreasing, or its speed to the right is
increasing, then the net force on the object must be directed towards
the right.

If an object is moving with constant speed in a circular path, then it's
constantly accelerating, because its direction is constantly changing.
The force on it is always directed towards the center of the circle, so
there's one point on the path where the force is directed straight to the right.
