I think maybe it’s all about from the perspective that the apple sees. to the human eye we see a room first, and then see the details, the first thing i saw when looking at this was the apple. it shows the perspective and the things we find more ‘important’ pop out to us first. So although it may seem strange the apple is the focal point.
Depending on where you are brought up, and the difference in society, you will see different things and people will have different beliefs in symbolism. For example, seeing a bird in a picture for a Christian may represent a dove and be seen as peace, but for someone else it may be seen as a vulture and represent death
