Moreover, he was Commanding General of the United States Army during Abraham Lincoln's presidency; however, he was removed from the charge by the president in 1862. Eventually, <u>George McClellan became the Democratic Party candidate for the 1864 presidential election and Lincoln's opponent in the same elections.</u> Lincoln won the elections with 55% of the votes.
