Answer:

The length is 43 feet, the width is 15 feet, and the area is 645 square feet

Step-by-step explanation:

Let us solve the question

∵ The drawing plan shows a rectangle that is 17.2 inches by 6 inches

∴ The drawing length = 17.2 inches

∴ The drawing width = 6 inches

∵ The scale in the plan is 2 in.: 5 ft

→ By using the ratio method

→  inches: feet

→  2         : 5

→  17.2     : L

→  6         : W

→ By using the cross multiplication

∵ 2 × L = 17.2 × 5

∴ 2L = 86

→ Divide both sides by 2

∴ L = 43 feet

∴ The actual length is 43 feet

→ By using the cross multiplication

∵ 2 × W = 6 × 5

∴ 2W = 30

→ Divide both sides by 2

∴ W = 15 feet

∴ The actual width is 15 feet

∵ The area of the rectangle is A = L × W

∵ L = 43 feet

∵ W = 15 feet

→ Substitute them in the rule of the area

∴ A = 43 × 15

∴ A = 645 feet²

∴ The actual area is 645 square feet

For each problem, identify any important quantities. If it's a known quantity, write the
Tema [17]

Answer:

We have the problem:

"Clare is in charge of getting snacks for a road trip with her friends and her dog. She has

$35 to go to the store to get some supplies. The snacks for herself and her friends cost

$3.25 each, and her dog's snacks costs $9 each."

In this situation we have two variables:

X =  number of snacks for herself and her friends that she buys. Each one of these costs $3.50

Y = number of snacks for her dog that she buys. Each one of these costs $9.

The total cost, in this case, can be written as:

X*$3.50 + Y*$9

And we know that she has $35 to spend, so she can spend $35 or less in the store, then we have the inequality:

X*$3.50 + Y*$9  ≤ $35

Where we defined all the quantities in the inequality.

Each leg of a 45-45-90 triangle has a length of 6 units. What is the length of its hypotenuse?
andreyandreev [35.5K]
Use the Pythagorean theorem:
(\hbox{one leg})^2+(\hbox{the other leg})^2=(\hbox{hypotenuse})^2 \\
6^2+6^2=x^2 \\
6^2 \times 2=x^2 \\
\sqrt{6^2 \times 2}=x \\ \sqrt{6^2} \times \sqrt{2}=x \\ 6\sqrt{2}=x

The length of the hypotenuse is 6√2 units.

If a picnic area is located at the midpoint between Sacramento and Oakland, find the distance to the picnic area from the road s
Oxana [17]
First, think this through. If you are 23 miles from Sacramento, and 110 miles from Oakland (I am assuming it is miles since you didn't specify *cough cough*) then the two cities are 133 miles apart (also assuming you are in between them)
23miles + 110miles = 133miles
so, we use the midpoint formula to find our position
\frac{distance}{ 2}
and get 66.5 miles from both Sacramento and Oakland.

Next, we already know the sign is 23 miles away from Sacramento so we can use that distance and our position to figure out how far away the sign is. We use absolute values because distance is always positive.
|our \: position - distance \: of \: sign|

so we get
|66.5miles - 23miles| = 43.5miles
to double check, use the sign's distance from Oakland.
|66.5miles - 110miles| = 43.5miles
so, we are 43.5 miles from the sign!

hope this helps
