A movie studio surveyed married couples about the types of movies they prefer. In the survey, the husband and wife were each ask
Aleksandr [31]

Using proportions, it is found that out of the next 75 couples asked, 49 will have at least one spouse that prefers action movies.

What is a proportion?

A proportion is a fraction of a total amount, and the measures are related using a rule of three. Due to this, relations between variables, either direct or inverse proportional, can be built to find the desired measures in the problem.

Researching this problem on the internet, it is found that out of 150 couples initially surveyed, 26 + 25 + 12 + 22 + 13 = 98 couples had at least one spouse preferring action movies, hence the proportion is:

p = 98/150 = 0.6533.

Out of the next 75 couples, the amount is:

A = 0.6533 x 75 = 49

Hence, out of the next 75 couples asked, 49 will have at least one spouse that prefers action movies.

The measure of one angle of a parallelogram is 40 more than 3 times another. Find the measure of each angle.
tankabanditka [31]
Two angles in the same parallelogram must either be equal or else add up to 180 degrees. These two are obviously not equal, so they must add up to 180.

A + B = 180
A = 180 - B (we'll use this in just a second)

A = 3B + 40

180 - B = 3B + 40

Add 'B' to each side:

180 = 4B + 40

Subtract 40 from each side:

140 = 4B

Divide each side by 4 :

35 = B

A = 180 - B = 145

Talia wants to write the equation of the graphed line in point-slope form. These are the steps she plans to use: Step 1: Choose
lesya692 [45]
The step which is INCORRECT is no other than the step 4 is incorrect because it shows the incorrect substitution. The step one is correct, the chosen point (2,5) is on the line, same with step 2 where the chosen point (1,3) is also in the chosen line. While step 3 is also correct where the line runs 1 unit rises 2 units such as slope m = 2/1. To make step 4 correct, we should substitute slope in step 3 in the equation below:
(y - y1) = m (x-x1) where m is the slope, in this problem m is 2/1
using point (1,3) and slope m=2/1, we have:
y - 3 = 2 (x - 1)

Thus, step 4 in Talia's solution is incorrect.

If sin theta = (sqrt 3)/2, which could not be the value of theta? A. 60 degrees B. 120 degrees C. 240 degrees D. 420 degrees I k
sineoko [7]
Your are right, \pi /3 and 2\pi /3 are solutions.
Of course each of these solutions can be replaced by the same number +k2\pi (with k being an element of Z) since sin x=sin (x+k2\pi) with k being an element of Z.
Those are angle measures expressed in radians.
If you translate in degrees you basically have to know that \pi radian=180 degrees
so \pi /3 radian=60 degrees and 2\pi /3=120 degrees. So this two could be values of theta (A and B).
On top of that \pi /3+2 \pi could also be a solution (x+k2\pi with k=1). This can be translated to 60+360=420 degrees which is solution D.
So C. 240 degrees is the only one that could not be a value of theta.
