1) How many weeks will Jake and Seth be equal? set the equations equal to each other and solve for x:

5x + 85 = 20x + 40

45 = 15x

x = 3 weeks

2) How much money will that be? plug x = 3 back into the equation to solve for y:

Jake: 5(3) + 85 = $100
Seth: 20(3) + 40 = $100

answer is $100

Solve 8(1/4×+3/4)-3=17
stepladder [879]
8(1/4x + 3/4) -3 =17

First distribute which results in (8/4x + 24/4)-3 =17.
Now just simply simplify it into (2x+6)-3 =17
Then you combine like term : 2x+3 =17

Subtract 3 on both sides : 2x=14

Finally divide 2 on both sides to isolate x: x=7
