Germany was put into an economic depression due to the money they had to pay to other countries, and they also had to accept the fact that WW1 was their responsibility. They lost land and their military weakened, and they weren't allowed to have a military that can go on the offensive. These factors hurt Germany's relationships with other countries, thus leading up to WW2.
