Direct Labor Variances The following data relate to labor cost for production of 20,000 cellular telephones: Actual: 8,450 hrs.

at $22.50 Standard: 8,400 hrs. at $23.00
a. Determine the direct labor rate variance, direct labor time variance, and total direct labor cost variance. Enter a favorable variance as a negative number using a minus sign and an unfavorable variance as a positive number. Rate variance $ Time variance $ Total direct labor cost variance $
b. The employees may have been less-experienced or poorly trained, thereby resulting in a labor rate than planned. The lower level of experience or training may have resulted in efficient performance. Thus, the actual time required was than standard.

Answer and Explanation:

The computation is given below:

a)

Direct labor rate variance = (Actual rate - Standard rate) × Actual hours

= ($22.50 - $23) × 8,450 hours

= -$4,225.00 Favorable

Direct labor time variance = (Actual hours - Standard hours) × Standard rate

= (8,450 hours - 8,400 hours) × $23

= $ 1,150.00 Unfavorable

Total direct labor cost variance is

= Direct labor rate variance + Direct labor time variance

= $4,225 Favorable + $1,150 Unfavorable

= -$3,075.00 Favorable

b. In the case when the employees are not much experienced or they are poorly trained so the less experience cause to less performance due to which the actual time needed should be more than the standard one

What is one explanation for why this labor supply curve is upward sloping over the range of wages from low wage to high wage?
hjlf

Answer:

Option 1 - the opportunity cost of leisure decreases as wages decrease.

Explanation:

The labour supply curve of any occupation will always be upward sloping because when wages, (the opportunity cost of leisure) rises, the more hours of leisure a staff will relinquish to do more work.

The opposite of this is true as seen in option 1 of the question.

Opportunity costs will reduce with a consequent reduction in average wages. When fewer people want to retain their employment due to decrease in wage rates, it would lead to a fall in demand for leisure.

Answer: Industrial Hygiene

Explanation: Specialists in industrial hygiene are also known as occupational hygienists. They serve to analyze, identify, research and measure key elements to industrial hygiene which are biological, chemical, physical and ergonomic (including workplace hazards or stresses) that can cause sickness, impair health, or cause significant discomfort in workers. To do this, they help in spotting these conditions and assist in eliminating or controlling them using appropriate measures.

Mandarinka [93]

The amount to be recorded as depreciation expense on December 31, 2021, is (B) $9,590.

What is depreciation expense?

 • Depreciation expense is the cost of a depreciated asset for a specific period, and it reveals how much of the asset's value was used up in that year.
 • Accumulated depreciation is the entire amount of depreciation expense given to an asset since it was placed in service.
 • A business spends $84,000 on new display racks with a useful life of 7 years (84 months) and no residual value.
 • The corporation would most likely choose a straight-line depreciation technique, which would result in a $1,000 monthly depreciation expenditure ($84,000/84 months = $1,000 per month).

The straight-line technique of calculating depreciation expense is given below:

 • = (Original cost - salvage value) ÷ (useful life)
 • = ($173,000 - $8,600) ÷ (10 years)
 • = ($164,400,000) ÷ (10 years)
 • = $16,440

In this method, the depreciation is the same for all the remaining useful life.

Now for the 7 months, the depreciation expense would be:

 • = $16,440 × 7 months÷ 12 months
 • = $9,590

Therefore, the amount to be recorded as depreciation expense on December 31, 2021, is (B) $9,590.
