The ocean-floor feature that is associated with trenches is a subduction zone. An oceanic trench is characterized by a narrow and very deep depression on the sea floor. This depression is caused by a subduction zone wherein two plate boundaries converge and one sinks at the bottom of the other plate, forming a thin and deep region between the two plates.
