The right answer is D.

The origin of replication (also called "ori") is a unique DNA sequence that allows the initiation of replication. It is from this sequence that unidirectional or bidirectional replication begins.

Prokaryotes have a single circular DNA molecule and therefore usually only one origin of replication. Depending on the Archaea species, there may be one or more origins of replication by replicon1. Eukaryotes have multiple origins of replication on each chromosome.

The origin of replication of Escherichia coli is known as oriC and extends over 245 base pairs (bp). It contains upstream of a 13 bp sequence (GATCTNTTNTTTT) repeated three times, and further downstream, four 9 bp (9mer) sequences that are in either orientation. Proteins, called DnaA, will bind to the repeated 9 bp sequences. The DNA will then wrap around the protein complex of DnaA. This conformational change in DNA results in the opening of the DNA double helix at the adenine and thymine-rich 13 bp repeat which allows enzymes and other factors to bind to dissociated strands and start replication.

A yellow female Labrador retriever was mated with a brown male. Half of the puppies were brown, and half were yellow. Explain ho
Over [174]

Answer:

The first male was bb Ee, and the second male was bb EE.

Explanation:

In Labradors coat colour is controlled by two genes. Suppose the two genes are B and E. B produces black colour and recessive form bb gives brown colour. Gene E is epistatic over gene B in its recessive form which means that ee will produce yellow colour regardless of the genotype present of B gene.

The first case is possible if the female lab is bbee (yellow) and the male lab is bbEe (brown):

bbee X bbEe

        bE      be

be  bbEe    bbee

So half of the offspring will be brown (bbEe) and half of them will be yellow (bbee)

The second case is possible if the same female bbee mates with a brown male of different genotype which can be bbEE:

bbee X bbEE

         bE

be   bbEe

So all offspring will be brown (bbEe)

Hence, the first male was bbEe and the second male was bbEE.

Why are open circulatory systems advantageous to some animals?
goldenfox [79]

Answer:

Open circulatory systems are advantageous to some animals because they use less metabolic energy.

Explanation:

Open circulatory systems are also known as lagoon circulatory systems. In this systems the blood is not necessarily always inside the blood vessels; It leaves the heart and will directly irrigate the organs and then return by other means or mechanisms.

So that it can be understood more easily, it is necessary to think about this system acting in organisms much smaller and less complex than mammals or any other vertebrate of greater size. As this animals doesn't have a great size, they need to use less metabolic energy than more developed organisms, so this system allows them to save metabolic energy to be used in other living functions.
