I remember reading about it and how awful it was. The Supreme Court ORIGINALLY stated in the <em>Gobitis </em>case that if you lived in the United States ("The Land of the Free"), you were required to salute the flag out of respect for the country and what they've provided for you.

However in the <em>Barnette</em> case, It was ruled that students had minimal First Amendment rights. So I would say the best answer choice is B or E.
