<span>HIV/AIDS medications do not guarantee the cure of
a patient. Though the FDA has approved 25 types of HIV antiretroviral drugs, it can only do so much. These drugs only reduce the viral load of an infected person,
preserve the immune system, and improve the quality of life of a patient. <span>
<span>For a
person to successfully feel these effects of the drug, doctors suggest that a
patient undergo a Highly Active Antiretroviral Therapy (HAART). This is where a
patient takes a combination of HIV drugs from two of
its main classes. The effect is that it combats new resistant strains that the
virus brings when it copies itself and it also decreases the rate of infections
