I have been a nurse for twenty years. In that time, I have seen a great number of patients suffer because they did not have heal

th insurance. One of the worst cases was a young mother of two who was diagnosed with early stage skin cancer. Because she could not afford treatment, the cancer spread from her skin to other parts of her body. By the time I saw her for the first time, the cancer had reached her brain, and she could no longer be helped. This sort of thing should not happen to anyone. A strong universal health care system could prevent instances like this from occurring.

A Summers Reading
vazorg [7]

In Bernard Malamud´s "A summer´s reading", George likes the fact that his neighbors are beginning to threat him differently because they believe he is spending his time reading. It is as is their new found appraisal of him boosts his confidence. No longer is he just a twenty years old man who lives with his father a sister above a butcher´s shop but rather he has the potential to be somebody. George and the guys on the store did not recognize each other because they always had an impression of George as a shy and silent guy that do not believe himself; however, after George´s discovery, finally realize he was a man "different", sure about himself and his capacity.

The two statements that best summarize the excerpt are:

"Think of a heap of charred wood and all in one flash!", and "In thunder as in sunshine, I stand at ease."

These sentences show the attitude of the salesman trying to convince the narrator by making he afraid of the consequences if he doesn't buy the lightning-rod.

The second sentence shows how the narrator is not afraid nor convinced by the salesman and scolds him, portraying the triumph over human fear.
