Southerners were feeling the threat of Lincoln and believed that he would put an end on slavery and its expansion. The North was gaining more power, and the slave states had deteriorated in their influence and presence in the House of Representatives. The South Feared that the North had more power over them and that the North would be able to essentially boss them around. Lincon's Election only made this paranoia worse.
