Solution:

In a right angle triangle,

\tan \theta=\dfrac{Perpendicular}{Base}

In triangle BGU,

\tan B=\dfrac{GU}{BU}

\tan 44^\circ=\dfrac{7}{y}

0.966=\dfrac{7}{y}

Isolating y, we get

y=\dfrac{7}{0.966}

y=7.2463

y\approx 7.2

Therefore, the correct option is A.
