The Congo is the 2nd most ethnically diverse nation in the world. The people their have far more loyalty to the tribes that go back centuries, then to the nation that goes back decades. Because of this there is often conflict between the different ethnic groups as they fight for power, resources, and wealth. The superimposed borders of the Congo caused this conflict because it forced these very different people to try to live together, even though they had at best been indifferent, and at worst outright violent to each other for generations.
