George Frederic Matthew was a Canadian amateur geologist from New Brunswick. Matthew only had a grammar school education but soon became one of the first to find a major type locality from many important Precambrian fossils. George Matthew lived from the years 1837 to 1923.
The biography theme may be about the time where he lived during the latter part of the Industrial Revolution. This is as it was common for men to have wide interests. Matthew’s work was as a customs agent but later on he would become an amateur paleontologist from applying himself to the subject, especially in the paleontologist field. He had also found many Cambrian fossils which described the Archaeology acadiense masterstrokes. The founding of these fossils showed how it was not necessarily formal training and the being from a wealthy and prosperous family that would determine how good a natural scientist is, but would be from how passionate one is about their own job.
