Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder characterized by pauses in breathing when person's breathing is interrupted during sleep. When the upper airway becomes blocked repeatedly during sleep, reducing or completely stopping airflow the result is this condition.

Sleep apnea is especially common in older males. The reason is because sleep apnea is caused by increased fatty deposits in the parapharyngeal area (areas in the head and neck), lengthening of the soft palate, and changes in body structures surrounding the pharynx.

Among the most common factors that can cause damage to the kidneys are hypertension and diabetes, and this damage can be ascertained not only with the measure of how much the kidneys are filtering, known as GFR (Glomerular filtration rate), which should normally be between 90 ml/min and 120 ml/min, but also the levels of creatinine in blood serum. In the case of this patient, he is already presenting the signs and symptoms of chronic kidney disease and the way to help him understand why, is by connecting his other two conditions: diabetes and hypertension, to the kidney condition by showing him that the two formers, cause the later.
