At the Constitutional Convention of 1787, delegates from larger states believed each state’s representation in the newly proposed Senate should be proportionate to population.

Smaller states with lower populations argued that such an arrangement would lead to an unfair dominance of larger states in the new nation’s government, and each state should have equal representation, regardless of population.

The disagreement over representation threatened to derail the ratification of the U.S. Constitution since delegates from both sides of the dispute vowed to reject the document if they didn’t get their way. The solution came in the form of a compromise proposed by statesmen Roger Sherman and Oliver Ellsworth of Connecticut.

The southern states were a society based on a division of classes. White Society and Black Society.

The White society was divided between:

Planters: The rich class that held the majority of the wealth of the southern states with them.

Middle class: Composed mostly by farmers who lived modestly growing cotton and corn.

Poor whites: Did not possess slaves and struggled for a survivor.


The Black Society was divided into:

Free black people: They usually bought they own freedom with money they saved.

Mulattoes: People of mixed breed that had plantations. They had limited rights and had to carry documents that proved they were free, if not they would become bonded laborers again.

Slaves: Tied to their owners usually resided in slave quarters away from their masters home.

During the 1930's Britain and France were too scared to respond to the fascist aggression as they didn't;t want another war ads a. they didn't have enough money as the Great Depression had just hit, b. they didn't have a powerful military as they had destroyed half of there machines and only had a militia around the world to control there colonies franc was mostly the same but it did have a defensive line along the border of France and Germany called the Gustav line but as we know it didn't really work.
