For the following right triangle, find the side length x. Round your answer to the nearest hundredth.

Their are two triangle possible.

1 ) With hypotenuse of length x.

2) With hypotenuse of length 12.

Solution :

Case : 1 )

Using Pythagoras theorem :

x² = 7² + 12²

x = √( 7² + 12²)

x = √( 49 + 144 )

x = √(193)

x = 13.89

Case : 2 )

Using Pythagoras theorem :

x² + 7² = 12²

x² = 144 - 49

x = √95

x = 9.75

Hence, this is the required solution.
