You should be correct. As Samurai  were generally  highly-literate and cultured.

Bushidō is a moral code concerning samurai attitudes, behavior and lifestyle. Think of it like chivalry

and yes the Samurai would commit Seppuku to lets say avoid being captured which would lose them honor they would rather die.

and Samurai are not more powerful than the emperor that would be the shogun
