After Lincoln was assassinated, Andrew Johnson took office. During his presidency, he divided the south into military districts because he took office right after the Civil War ended. He also made the states ratify the 14th and 15th amendment. This era is called the Reconstruction Era. Andrew Johnson was also impeached.
