Like the narrator of “An Encounter,” he yearns to experience new places and things, but he is also like Eveline and other adult characters who grapple with the conflict between everyday life and the promise of love.
Nouns, Adjectives, Predicates, Linking Verb Not sure about these cuz a participle MODIFIES them, not sure if it is USED as them: Subjects, Objects of Preposition, Direct Objects, Indirect Objects, Appositives, and Compliments.
"Sentences" is the punning word in #1, for judges give out sentences. And teachers, as well. Get it? Sentences?
"Manor" is the punning word in #2. Get that? Castle? Home? Manor instead of manner? A pun is a joke exploiting the different possible meanings of a word or fact that there are words that sound alike but have different meanings.
Another example of a pun is:
The pigs were a squeal.
I wondered why the baseball was getting bigger. And then it hit me.
Do you understand now? LOL. (: Hope this helps(:
Answer:
How foolish i was to have believed that young woman...
It all sounded a bit odd from the beginning, and I ignored the other warning signals in my attempt to help a young woman in need.
Let me tell you how it all started: I was standing in a very short line at the mall, waiting to pay for the items I bought when I suddenly got accosted by a lady of not more than 23 years with red eyes and looking clearly in despair. She told me she had no money on her and her credit card was flagged but she really needed to get some cereal for her baby at home as he was hungry and sick.
The story sounded odd and I kept wondering why I was the one she approached out of half a dozen people. I decided to give her a hundred dollars and she thanked me profusely.
On my way to my car however, I saw her with a well-known drug dealer and it appears she's a junkie who scammed me for a quick fix
I was angry, disappointed all at the same time, but decided not to accost her and accuse her of being a disgusting thief, I walked trance-like to my car and all the while kept thinking, how foolish i was to have believed that young woman.
