Tay-Sachs is an inherited, recessive trait which involves the inability to properly break down certain lipids. A normal couple h

as a child affected with Tay-Sachs. For each of the following situations, select the most appropriate frequency from the list below. What is the probability that the mother of the Tay-Sachs child is heterozygous dominant.

Answer:

The mother must be heterozygous.

Explanation:

t=Tay-Sachs trait

T=Normal trait

Parent genotype combinations:

Tt x Tt

Possible genotypes:

<u>     |  T    |    t  </u>

<u> T  </u><u>| TT  |   Tt  </u>

<u> t   </u><u>| Tt   |    tt  </u>

Since it is a recessive trait there must be 2 of the recessive alleles for the trait to show. This means neither of the parents can be totally normal(TT).

Since both parents are considered normal the both must be heterozygous to be able to produce an child with Tay-Sachs.

Clinical trials occur under very specialized, controlled conditions that do not represent everyday life. generalizing the result
Harman [31]

Randomized Clinical Trial

In this type of study, assigned or randomized people are grouped in two and are followed over time to see which group achieves a particular result. The two groups receives different interventions. The outcomes for each are then evaluated and the risk of one group developing the result are compared and calculated.

What must happen to the liquid as it passes from the stomach to the small intestine for digestion?
kaheart [24]
The liquid should be neutralized.
In the stomach, the pH value is around 2.0, which is because of the hydrochloric acid in the stomach. It can provide a optimum pH for the stomach enzymes.
However in the small intestine, the enzymes there works in a optimum pH of around 8.0, therefore the liquid must be neutralized before going into the small intestine, or else the enzymes in the small intestine will be denatured due to extreme pH.
Neutralization can be done by the sodium hydrogen carbonate, which is a alkali produced in small intestine.

In a heliocentric model, Earth and the other planets orbit a central star, known as the sun.
Alexus [3.1K]
True. The root/prefix (I'm not sure which it is.. probably root) "helio" means "sun," so "Heliocentric" is broken down into "helio" and "centric." Then, those become "sun" and "center."

when that is interpreted, it is "sun in the center"

A specialized structure within a cell that has its own specific function is known as a/an _______.
vichka [17]

Answer:

Organnelle

Ribosomes

Nucleus

Archaeabacteria

Phospholipid bilayer

Lipases

Explanation:

1. Organnelles are specialized structures in a cell designed to perform a particular function that will make the cell normal e.g. ribosome, Chloroplast, mitochondrion are examples of organnelles.

2. The Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (RER) is one of the two endomembranous systems in the cell. It is characterized by its rough appearance which occurs as a result of ribosomes attached to its surface. This attachment of ribosomes makes its function related to protein synthesis.

3. Nucleus is a membrane bound organnelle found only in EUKARYOTIC cells. It houses the genetic material (DNA) of a cell and acts as the brain by directing all of the cellular activity of that cell.

4. Archaeabacteria is one of the six kingdoms in the hierarchical classification of living organisms. They contain unicellular and prokaryotic organisms that are uniquely characterized by their ability to survive extreme conditions e.g high temperature.

5. The plasma membrane is an outer covering that bounds the cells of both Prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms. According to the fluid mosaic model that describes the structure of the cell membrane, it contains a phospholipid layer that confines its selective permeability upon it i.e. ability to control what goes in and out of the cell. This is due to the amphipathic nature of the phospholipid i.e. contains an hydrophobic and hydrophilic region.

6. Lipases are enzymes that are involved specifically in the breakdown of lipids and fat molecules into fatty acids and glycerol.
