Write the series 2+4+6+8+...+100 in sigma notation
Ugo [173]

We need to write the sum in this form:

\displaystyle \sum_{i=1}^N a_i

So, we need to find an appropriate sequence, such that a_i is the i-th even number.

You can easily check that this series is a_i=2i. In fact, you have

\begin{array}{c|c|c}a_1&2\cdot 1&2\\a_2&2\cdot 2&4\\a_3&2\cdot 3&6\\a_4&2\cdot4&8\end{array}

and so on. Finally, we have to observe that we want the first 50 elements of this sequence, since a_{50} = 2\cdot 50 = 100.

So, the sum can be written as

\displaystyle \sum_{i=1}^{50} 2i

19. A quadratic equation is shown below.
victus00 [196]

Answer:

\{\sqrt b, -\sqrt b\}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

a^2 - b = 0

Required

Determine the solution

Since b is  a perfect square, the equation can be expressed as:

a^2 - (\sqrt b)^2 = 0

Apply difference of two squares:

(a - \sqrt b)(a + \sqrt b) = 0

Split:

(a - \sqrt b)= 0 \ or\ (a + \sqrt b) = 0

Remove brackets:

a - \sqrt b= 0 \ or\ a + \sqrt b = 0

Make a the subject in both equations

a =\sqrt b \ or\ a  =-\sqrt b

The solution can be represented as:

\{\sqrt b, -\sqrt b\}

(fog)(x) and (gof)(x)<br> f(x)= 8/1-5x<br> g(x)= 1/x<br><br> Then find the domain for each
Paha777 [63]
To find FoG ( or F of G) you put the equation of G in for the X of F

FoG = \frac{8x}{x-5}   The domain is All Except 5 since it makes the bottom 0

GoF = - \frac{5x}{8} + \frac{1}{8} The domain is -Infinity to Infinity

FoG ---  The picture --- You want the denominator the same for both of the numbers. By turning 1 into 1x/x it still stays 1 because the x's cancel out, but it can group with the 5.

Next you can multiply both sides (top and bottom) by x and get the final product.

GoF --- Multiply both sides by 5x+1 and get the final product

WRITE 14 9/20 AS A DECIMAL
OLEGan [10]
Do you mean this? 14 \frac{9}{20} I suspect you do therefore I will walk you through the steps and explanations, therefore when you have this answer again, you'd know what to do without doubts!

Firstly, you'd want to make it easier. The easiest way is converting the mixed fraction into a improper fraction. In case you forgotten how to do so, I will list the steps.

Proper/mixed -> Improper:

Improper fractions occur when the top, or numerator, obtains a greater value compared to the denominator, or the number below the bar. However, how do we change a proper or a mixed fraction into such? \frac{Numerator}{Denominator}

1)  First you multiply the whole number by the fraction's denominator. In this case 14 by 20, which gets us 280.

2) Secondly, you add that total to the numerator, which would be 280. 280 + 9 = 289.

3) Then you write your result as the numerator, placing it above the bar!

There you have it! 14 9/20 = 289/20

Now, since we changed our proper into an improper total, we can do the next step in our process of converting fractions to decimals. Next, you simply divide the numerator by the denominator as N / D.

This would give us 14.45. 14.45 would be our answer.
