Given Equation: \frac{1}{3}h-4(\frac{2}{3}h-3)=\frac{2}{3}h-6

Let us remove parenthesis first.

In order to remove parenthesis, we need to distribute -4 over parenthesis (2/3 h -3).

Distributing -4 over (2/3 h -3), we get,

-4*2/3 h - 4*-3 = -8/3 h + 12.

Substituting this value in original equation, we get

\frac{1}{3}h-\frac{8}{3}h+12 =\frac{2}{3}h-6

Now, in order to make the equation easy to solve, we always remove fractions. In order to remove fraction, we need to find the lowest common denominator of all terms(lcd).

The fraction terms has 3 in denominators, so we could multiply each and every term by 3 to remove 3's from denominators.

Multiplying each equation by 3, we get,

3*\frac{1}{3}h-3*\frac{8}{3}h+3*12 =3*\frac{2}{3}h-3*6

On simplfying this step, we get

1h -8h+36=2h-18

Combining like terms on left side, we get

-7h +36 = 2h -18.

Subtracting 36 from both sides, we get

-7h +36 -36= 2h -18-36.

-7h=2h-54

Subtracting 2h from both sides, we get

-7h-2h=2h-54-2h

-9h = -54

Dividing both sides by -9.

-9h/-9 = -54/-9

h = 6.

Therefore, final answer is h=6.

Determine the larger of two consecutive integers whose sum add to 85
Vesnalui [34]
N+(n+1) = 85. 2n+1=85, 2n=84. n=42. So the consecutive integers are 42 and 43, and the larger one is 43.

I have a Triangle and I need to find the side BC?
Rus_ich [418]
Looking at this problem in the book, I'm guessing that you've been
introduced to a little bit of trigonometry.  Or at least you've seen the
definitions of the trig functions of angles.

Do you remember the definition of either the sine or the cosine of an angle ?

In a right triangle, the sine of an acute angle is  (opposite side) / (hypotenuse),
and the cosine of an acute angle is (adjacent side) / (hypotenuse).

Maybe you could use one of these to solve this problem, but first you'd need to
make sure that this is a right triangle.

Let's see . . . all three angles in any triangle always add up to 180 degrees.
We know two of the angles in this triangle ... 39 and 51 degrees.
How many degrees are left over for the third angle ?
180 - (39 + 51) = 180 - (90) = 90 degrees for the third angle.
It's a right triangle !  yay !  We can use sine or cosine if we want to.

Let's use the 51° angle.
The cosine of any angle is (adjacent side) / (hypotenuse) .
'BC' is the side adjacent to the 51° angle in the picture,
and the hypotenuse is 27 .

cosine(51°) = (side BC) / 27

Multiply each side of that equation by 27 :

Side-BC = (27) times cosine(51°)

Look up the cosine of 51° in a book or on your calculator.

Cosine(51°) = 0.62932 (rounded)

<u>Side BC</u> = (27) x (0.62932) = <u>16.992</u> (rounded)
============================================

You could just as easily have used the sine of 39° .
That would be (opposite side) / (hypotenuse) ... also (side-BC) / 27 .
