John Kennedy was around 12 years old when the Great depression occurred. He experienced poverty and economic hardships.
Missionaries’ jobs were to spread their culture and lots of times, they just had the instruction to go a certain direction. For example, imagine someone just telling you go west. You wouldn’t have any idea what to do. With roads, this job would be easier.
