Egyptologists believe the pyramid was built as a tomb for the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian pharaoh Khufu (often Hellenized as "Cheops") and was constructed over a 20-year period. Khufu's vizier, Hemiunu (also called Hemon) is believed by some to be the architect of the Great Pyramid. The ancient Egyptians who built the pyramids may have been able to move massive stone blocks across the desert by wetting the sand in front of a contraption built to pull the heavy objects
The United States won the battle of Cape Esperance on the northwest coast of Guadalcanal Island against the Japanese reinforcements that came at night. The Japanese hoped to position themselves to have a direct route to Austria and to New Zealand wich Japan hoped to capture in their quest for territorial expansion. The US navy harrassed Japanese ships and by 1942 the Japanese were ready to evacuate the island in defeat. The US basic strategy was "island hopping" which was taking one island at a time from the Japanese occupation.
When Jefferson drafted the Declaration of Independence, he
used a rhetorical writing style that was the standard during the 18th
century. The goal was to build towards a climax. By stating life, liberty and the
pursuit of happiness as unalienable rights that should be enjoyed by all men he
set the tone for the rest of the document. The succeeding list described how
the British violated these rights in an order where the worst violations were
placed last.
