Oxidation is a process in which electrons are lost from the substance. Since electrons are lost, oxidation state increases.

In the above reaction, we can see that oxidation state increases for Mn from 0 to +2. That mean Mn is undergoing oxidation.

Mn(s)----->Mn^{2+}(aq) +2e^{-}

We have E_{ox} = 0.34V

The oxidation state decreases for Cu, that means Cu undergoes reduction.

Cu^{2+}(aq) + 2e^{-} ------> Cu(s)

E_{red} =1.18V

The formula to calculate cell potential is

E_{cell} = E_{ox} + E_{red}

Let us plug in the given Eox and Ered values.

E_{cell} = 0.34V+1.18V

E_{cell} = 1.52V

The overall cell potential is +1.52V

When steam from a pan of boiling water reaches a cool window, it condenses. How much
andriy [413]

Because the air right above your hot pan of water is so warm, the water vapor can be quickly absorbed there. When the heat is removed, the hot convective up current from the pan vanishes and is replaced with cooler air that can no longer contain as much moisture, which makes the condensing water vapour visible.

First, it's important to discuss the "steam" that is produced by the hot water. While we refer to it as steam, it is not. Water that is heated above 100 degrees Celsius produces steam. The only area in the kitchen where you can see it clearly is if you look very closely at the spout of a boiling kettle. The first 5mm (1/4") of the liquid will be clear when it is boiling very near to the spout.

Draw the major product(s) of nitration of benzenesulfonic acid. you do not have to consider stereochemistry. you do not have to
emmasim [6.3K]
As we know Benzene undergo Electrophilic Substitution Reactions. In case of substituted Benzene the incoming Electrophile is substituted either at <em>Orto , Para</em> position or <em>Meta</em> position. If the substituent is Electron Withdrawing in Nature then the Electrophile will go to <em>meta</em> position. When the substituent id Electron Donating in Nature then the incoming electrophile will be directed to <em>ortho</em> and <em>para</em> position.

In Benzenesulfonic Acid the substituent is Sulfonate (-SO₃H), it has a strong electron withdrawing effect. So on Nitration the Nitro group will be oriented to <em>meta</em> position and 3-nitrobenzenesulfonic acid is formed. On further Nitration 3-nitrobenzenesulfonic acid will be convert to <span>3,5-dinitrobenzenesulfonic acid because both Sulfonate and Nitrate groups are <em>meta</em> directing.</span>
