Allison owns a trucking company. For every truck that goes out, Allison must pay the driver $11 per hour of driving and also has

an expense of $1 per mile driven for gas and maintenance. On one particular day, the driver drove an average of 15 miles per hour and Allison's total expenses for the driver, gas and truck maintenance were $286. Write a system of equations that could be used to determine the number of hours the driver worked and the number of miles the truck drove. Define the variables that you use to write the system.

Answer:

y = 15x

11x + y = 286

where

y = number of miles driven by the truck driver

x = number of hours the truck driver drives

Solving this gives, x = 11 hours and y = 165 miles.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the number of hours the truck driver drives be x.

Let the number of miles driven by the truck driver be y.

Since the truck driver drives at 15 miles per hour, the number of miles covered by the driver y, can be given from the speed equation.

Speed = (distance/time)

15 = (y/x)

y = 15x.

And the drivers are paid $11 per hour of driving and also has an expense of $1 per mile driven for gas and maintenance.

Meaning that on a day that the truck driver drives y miles for x hours, the total pay, C, is given as

C = 11x + 1y = 11x + y

So, on this fateful day, the total amount paid to a truck driver was $286

So, C = $286

11x + y = 286.

So, the two equations for the scenarios are

y = 15x

11x + y = 286

Solving this gives, x = 11 hours and y = 165 miles.

Hope this Helps!!!

Answer:

Y = 15x

11(15x) +1(15x) = 286

Step-by-step explanation:

Since we aren't aware of the distance traveled by the driver neither do we know the speed,we are going to assign certain variables to the unknown.

Let's assume that the distance traveled by the driver to be x and the time taken for the trip to be y.

And from the question, the driver drove at a speed of 15 miles per hour.that is

15 = x/y(formula for speed is distance divided by time)

Y = 15x

And it(the question also says that) the total expenses of Alison was 286,though he pays the driver 11 dollars per hours drive as well as $1 for gas and maintainance.

11(15x) +1(15x) = 286

What is the solution to the system of equations?
Nitella [24]
In this case the two equations describe lines that intersect at one particular point. Clearly this point is on both lines, and therefore its coordinates (x, y) will satisfy the equation of either line. Thus the pair (x, y) is the one and only solution to the system of equations.

Solve for x: x^2 + 14x + 49
Kaylis [27]

Answer: -7twice

Step-by-step explanation:

This is a question on root of quadratic equation. The interpretation of the question

x² 14x + 49 is

x² + 14x + 49 = 0.meaning that we are to find two possible values for x that will make the expression equal 0.

We can use any of the methods earlier taught. For the purpose of this class, I am using factorization methods

x² + 14x + 49 = 0

Now, find the product of the first and the last terms, is

x² × 49 = 49ײ

Now find two terms such that their productbis 49x² and their sum equals 14x, the one in the middle.

We have several factors of 49x² but only one will give sum of 14x. Because of the time, I will only go straight to the required factors .

49x² = 7x × 7x and the sum gives 14x the middle terms..

Now we now replace the middle one by the factors and then factorize by grouping.

x² + 14x + 49 = 0

x² + 7x + 7x + 49 = 0

x(x + 7) + 7(x + 7) = 0

(x + 7)(x + 7). = 0

Now to find this value of x,

x + 7 = 0

x. = -7twice.

The root of the equation = -7twice.

A line that include the point (0,2) has a slope is -1/7 what is its equation in slope-intercept form?
Kitty [74]

Answer:

y = -(1/7)x+2

Step-by-step explanation:

A slope-intercept form is y = mx + b, where m is the slope and b the y-intercept (the value of y when x=0).

We're given the slope: m = -(1/7):

y = -(1/7)x + b

We can use the given point, (0,2) in this equation and solve for b:

y = -(1/7)x + b

2 = -(1/7)*(0) + b

b = 2

The equation becomes y = -(1/7)x + 0

y = -(1/7)x+2
