Four congruent square pieces with lengths of sides of 6 cm were cut out of corners of a square piece of cardboard. Then this pie

ce of cardboard was folded into an open-top box. Find the original dimensions of the piece of cardboard if the volume of the resulting box is 486 cm3.

Answer:

21 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

You know the volume is 486 cm^3

The height for the box is 6 cm

The length and the width equal each other (because it's a square)

We can call the length and the width "x"

The volume of a box equals V=lwh

Now we can substitute

486=6*x*x

486=6x^2

81=x^2

x=9 or -9

x cannot be -9 because dimensions cannot be negative

Now we have to add 9+6+6 to find the whole side of the original square (before the 6x6 sqares were cut out)

9+6+6=21

Simplify the expression. Show your work. 22 + (32 – 4 2 )
Alex Ar [27]
You have to use PEMDAS:

Parentheses
Exponents
Multiplication
Division
Addition
Subtraction

First, do parentheses.

32 - 42 = -10

22 + -10 = 12

Answer = 12

Hope this helped

Sara jumps off a diving board that is 6 feet above the surface of the water her height above the surface of the water h in feet
Flauer [41]
Well when she hits the water h=0 so

2t^2-t-6=0  factor

2t^2-4t+3t-6=0

2t(t-2)+3(t-2)=0

(2t+3)(t-2)=0, since t>0

t=2 seconds...

However it should be noted that h(t)=-2t^2+t+6 implies that

v(t)=dh/dt=-4t+1 and

a(t)=dv/dt=-4

Since this is a free fall equation, this would suggest that the acceleration due to gravity is -4, whether that is supposed to be -4ft/s^2 or -4m/s^2, it certainly is not on this planet! :D  If it is -4ft/s^2 it could be on the Moon or if it is -4m/s^2 it could be on Mars.
