The first crusade lasted from 1096 to 1099 and was initiated by Pope Urban II with the aim of liberating the tomb of Christ and liberating the holy city of Jerusalem from the power of unbelievers (Muslims).
The first crusades were created on the basis of military success, and the first knightly ranks were created in Jerusalem itself.
This is the only crusade (and there were several more) that fulfilled its goal, the liberation of Jerusalem.
Byzantium received two heavy blows during 1071, the Normans occupied Bari, while the Seljuks Turks occupied the territories of Asia Minor after the Battle of Manzikert. Byzantine emperor Alexius was forced to seek help in Europe which he did not look favorably on.
Pope Urban II, who was concerned about the holy place (Jerusalem), responded to his call. It convenes in 1095 a council in Clermont attended by about 200 bishops, princes and nobles. It was decided to embark on the liberation of the holy place.

In my opinion, yes. Farming allowed the people to stay where they were and build, as opposed to traveling with herds.
